L’Italia protagonista con la nomination per Laura Pausini con la canzone Io Sì per il film La vita davanti a sé, e altre due per il film Pinocchio di Matteo Garrone
Oscar 2021: annunciate le nomination per la prossima edizione, che si terrà il prossimo 25 aprile, quasi tre mesi più avanti del solito. La cerimonia sarà trasmessa non solo al Dolby Theater di Hollywood, ma anche con dirette in streaming da diverse parti del mondo. La regia è stata affidata a Steven Soderbergh. Le candidature sono state rivelate da Nick Jonas e Priyanka Chopra.
Il film che ha ottenuto più nomination, esattamente dieci, è Mank, diretto da David Fincher sulla storia dello sceneggiatore Herman J. Mankiewicz, noto per aver scritto, insieme a Orson Welles, Quarto Potere. Dopo Mank con 6 nomination, The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Il processo ai Chicago 7 e Sound of Metal.
Protagonista anche l’Italia con la nomination per Laura Pausini nella categoria “miglior canzone” con Io Sì; per il film La vita davanti a sé e due nomination per il film Pinocchio di Matteo Garrone, nelle categorie costumi, trucco e acconciature. Invece per Notturno di Gianfranco Rosi, dopo essere stato eliminato dalla categoria “Miglior film internazionale“, non ottiene la nomination nella categoria Miglior documentario.
Nella categoria “miglior regia”, per la prima volta, sono candidate due donne: Emerald Fennell per Una donna promettente e Cholé Zhao per Nomadland. Zhao è anche la prima donna cino-americana candidata nella categoria. Chadwick Boseman, morto lo scorso 28 agosto 2020, è il settimo attore a ricevere una nomination postuma.
